Manhattan DA Candidate Weighs in On Recent Subway Slashing

March 13, 2025

New Yorkers deserve “a DA who will take decisive action against crime” says Timmins

NY, NY – In yet another harrowing example of the lawlessness plaguing our city under District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s failed leadership, a 57-year-old man was brutally stabbed in the eye at the Union Square subway station in the early hours of March 8, 2025. The assailant remains at large.

This vicious, unprovoked attack is not an isolated incident—it is part of a disturbing pattern of escalating crime in our transit system and across Manhattan. From repeat offenders walking free to violent criminals emboldened by lenient prosecution policies, New Yorkers are paying the price for a district attorney more focused on his national image than public safety.

“New Yorkers deserve a DA who will take decisive action against crime, not one who enables it,” said Patrick Timmins, a candidate for Manhattan District Attorney and former prosecutor who is challenging Alvin Bragg in the upcoming June 24 primary election. “Under Alvin Bragg, we’ve seen a surge in subway attacks, rampant shoplifting, and violent assaults—all while his office prioritizes reducing prosecutions and downgrading charges. This latest attack in one of the busiest transit hubs in the country is yet another example of his dangerous policies failing our city.”

The suspect, who was last seen fleeing the scene after stabbing the victim with a sharp object, remains at large. While the NYPD continues its investigation, Manhattan residents are left questioning whether justice will be served—or if another violent offender will be let back onto the streets under Bragg’s watch.

“Every day, New York subway riders wonder if they’ll make it home safely. That’s unacceptable. It’s time for a District Attorney who prioritizes the safety of victims, not criminals,” Timmins continued. “This election is about restoring safety, justice, and accountability to Manhattan. Our city’s future depends on it.”
