Timmins, sole democratic challenger to Bragg, “respects the role of law enforcement”
New York, NY — Patrick Timmins, former Bronx prosecutor and experienced civil litigator, today received the endorsement of former NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly, in a major development in the race for Manhattan District Attorney.
Timmins is the only Democrat running against Alvin Bragg in the upcoming primary. His campaign has quickly gained traction, fueled by growing frustration with what many see as a justice system in retreat under Bragg’s leadership.
“Patrick Timmins understands the importance of public safety and accountability,” said Kelly. “He respects the role of law enforcement and knows that keeping New Yorkers safe requires real partnership between prosecutors and police. He’s a serious, principled candidate—and I’m proud to support him.”
Timmins recently filed over 12,000 signatures to secure his spot on the ballot—8,000 more than required—a clear signal that voters are ready for a change.
“Alvin Bragg seems to have forgotten that the job of District Attorney is to protect New Yorkers—not coddle repeat violent offenders,” said Timmins. “Every day, New Yorkers deal with the fallout of rising lawlessness and a justice system that’s lost its way. I’m running to restore basic accountability and common sense. I will work with officers, not against them—and I will put public safety first.”
With Commissioner Kelly’s backing and growing grassroots momentum, Timmins is positioning himself as the candidate who will bring real leadership, balance, and integrity back to the Manhattan DA’s office.
“This is about restoring the fundamental promise of justice,” said Timmins. “Victims deserve to be heard. Officers deserve to be supported. And every New Yorker deserves to feel safe—on their block, in the subway, and in their home. That’s the job. And I intend to do it.”
